Blog: Karen to dissipate soon

Posted: Updated:

Tropical Storm Karen, which developed early Thursday, has struggled over the past 24-hours.  The system is very disorganized with much of the showers and storms well east of its center.

The latest forecast now calls for Karen to be downgraded to a tropical depression before making landfall Sunday morning in Southeast Louisiana.  Afterwards, the storm should dissipate completely over South Georgia.

Latest Information

As of Saturday afternoon, Karen has maximum winds of 40 mph, and is moving north at 7 mph.  Once winds drop to below 39 mph, it will be downgraded to a tropical depression.

Advisories

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect from the east coast of Louisiana to the Florida panhandle.  A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the southeast Louisiana coast, as tropical storm conditions are expected.

A Hurricane Watch that was originally in effect has been canceled.

Futurecast

A combination of what's left of Karen and a cold front will produce rain in starting around 10 p.m. Sunday night through Monday morning.
