ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Tropical Storm Karen developed early Thursday, and is moving toward Metro Atlanta.

The storm is currently located in the southwest Gulf of Mexico, and will track northeast through the weekend, making landfall along the central Gulf coast early Sunday.

A Hurricane Watch has been issued for the east Louisiana coast through Florida.  This watch means tropical storm winds are expected within two days.

Rain is already expected in Atlanta on Sunday due to an approaching cold front.  Karen could enhance our rainfall in North Georgia, while providing the heaviest rain in South Georgia and Florida.

Hurricane season ends in the Atlantic on November 30th.
