ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Just before 3 a.m. Monday morning, a large tree fell on a home in southwest Atlanta trapping a man.

Atlanta fire officials told CBS Atlanta News that an Atlanta police officer actually helped to free the man.

"APD was on the scene prior to us," said Atlanta Battalion Chief Douglas Hatcher. "They were in the process of pulling him out of the room, and they were the actual ones that pulled him out and got him outside the building."

According to fire officials, the man was not hurt, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Neighbor Barbara Lord rushed to help her neighbor after hearing the tree fall.

"We came in and saw that we couldn't get to the bedroom, so we called 911," said Lord.

According to fire officials, the tree did tremendous damage to the home, knocking it off its foundation.
