Repair work complete on I-85 south in DeKalb County

DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

The Georgia Department of Transportation has confirmed that all lanes are open on I-85 southbound between Shallowford and Clairmount roads.

GDOT crews worked all day Tuesday repairing a collapsed drain on the interstate in DeKalb County.

A hole on the stretch of road forced crews to close the two left lanes on I-85.

"We had a drainage structure fail. There are thousands of these all over the metro area on this interstate, and this rarely happens," said spokesman Mark McKinnon.

McKinnon said the drain's foundation gave way sometime Sunday.

"The drainage structure broke and fell into itself. All the rain we had Sunday night had no where to go but under the pavement," he said.
