Honey Boo Boo's mom reflects on realty show journey two years later
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
It has been a long and exciting journey for one of Georgia's most popular families: the "Honey Boo Boo" clan.
The clan includes "Mama June" Shannon, Lauryn "Pumpkin" Shannon, Anna "Chickadee" Shannon, Jessica "Chubbs" Shannon, Mike "Sugar Bear" Thompson and, of course, Honey Boo Boo herself, Alana Thompson.
CBS Atlanta News has followed the family though their journey since Feb. 2012.
Alana got her TV start on TLC's Toddlers & Tiaras and was offered a reality show of her own, shortly after gaining popularity for her unfiltered personality.
June Shannon faced heavy criticism when she gave Alana a special energy drink they created themselves to get Alana pumped up for pageant time. The drink known as "go-go juice," is mixed with Mountain Dew and Red Bull.
The first season of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo aired from Aug. 8 to Oct. 26, 2012 and was followed by four specials airing in early 2013.
The second season debuted July 17, 2013. On Sept. 20, 2013 TLC announced it had ordered a 12-episode third season and three specials. The first special will air on Jan. 1, 2014.
Even though the family has faced endless criticism, they also have had overwhelming support from people across the world.
On Thursday, June Shannon took the time to thank her fans for always being there for them through a video.
"I've been waiting to do this video for quite some time now, but I just didn't have the time," Shannon said.
Mama June explained that Oct. 12 is the anniversary of when their family started their TV journey.
"We first started filming Toddlers and Tiaras two years ago, it's been an amazing adventure," she said.
Shannon said she appreciates her youngest fans to their oldest fans.
"Anywhere from 6-months-old to meeting one of our oldest fans who was 95 years old," Mama June said.
The family hopes to meet more fans in the future during meet and greet events.
June Shannon explained that some fans have even stopped at their house in Thompsonville to say hello.
"Hopefully, we continue this adventure for a long time with y'all fans right along the way every step of the way," said Shannon.
