The Gwinnett County animal shelter is almost at capacity and they are putting on a number of events in 24 hours to raise awareness about shelter animals.
The Gwinnett County Animal Welfare and Enforcement Center at 884 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville is open all night from Friday through Saturday. People can interact with the animals and choose a new member of the family.
The shelter is also holding a 5K road race called "Run Fur Their LIves" It starts at 8am Saturday at the shelter. The registration fee is $25.
There is also the "Bone to be Wild" motorcycle ride. It starts at Lawrenceville Honda at 10 a.m. and ends at the shelter. The registration fee is $20 per driver and $5 per passenger.
There are also a number of contests and seminars. Dogs and cats can also receive shots and microchips.

A Griffin police officer was shot and killed Saturday morning. It happened at about 2:30 a.m. at a Waffle House. The officer is identified as 43-year-old Kevin Jordan. He had been with Griffin Police for four years.More >
