At a preliminary hearing, Shayaa Yusef Forbes was granted $30,000 bond Tuesday after being charged with the murder of his son earlier in October.

The Paulding County District Attorney's office says they plan on submitting their case to a grand jury once their investigation is over.

Forbes was arrested earlier in October in connection with his 12-year-old son's death.

The Paulding County Sheriff's Department said Forbes called 911 to report that his son had drowned at their home on North Springs Drive.

When emergency crews arrived, however, they found evidence that the boy had been severely abused, the sheriff's department said.

The boy, who authorities would not identify, suffered bruises, cuts and human bite marks, according to the sheriff's department.

The boy was taken to Paulding Wellstar Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Forbes, 32, was arrested and charged with cruelty to children.

Forbes' young daughter, who also lived in the house, is now with the Department of Family and Children Services.

Neighbors said they had no idea anything was wrong inside the home.

"I was totally shocked," said Curtis Stacy, a neighbor. " I think everybody else in this neighborhood will be shocked. I thought the kid was his whole world."

Another neighbor, who only identified herself as Pat, said the family seemed like the picture of happiness.

"They would wave and say hi. The man was always polite, very nice. The kid was always running with him," she said.
