Gwinnett County man takes on alleged criminals in Lawrenceville neighborhood

At first glance, Henry Cochran and his dogs don't appear to be too imposing. He admits he's no spring chicken and his dogs look like they'll kiss you quicker than bite you.

"They're my guard dogs," Cochran said.

But Cochran said he and they are often the first line of defense against criminals trying to tear down his neighborhood.

"We've got murderers, rapists, drug dealers and prostitutes doing tricks right here," Cochran said.

And he said his pup has the scars to prove it after getting attacked by a suspected drug dealer's pit bull.

"She was a perfect dog until she got attacked about three weeks ago," Cochran said.

CBS Atlanta News checked and over the last month, Gwinnett County police have responded to the neighborhood a half dozen times after getting calls from Cochran about a variety of issues. Last week officers responded to an incident in front of Cochran's home.

"There was a little lady right here, she kept getting in and out of different cars. Then this morning we found her smoke pipe and a police officer came out and made an arrest," said Cochran.

He said he's even testified in court against suspects despite threats against his life.

Cochran said his once quiet neighborhood is not the same one he moved into 40 years ago.

"I can't even sit on my porch without carrying a pistol. I can't walk my dogs without carrying a knife and a pistol and my telephone," Cochran said.
