Parents fired up about school redistricting in Henry County

MCDONOUGH, GA (CBS46) -

The Henry County School Board will decide the fate of an elementary school in early December.

The board held a meeting Monday night to discuss closing Smith Barnes Elementary.

If the school closes, students will be sent to Stockbridge Elementary and Cotton Indian Elementary.

One parent says the board's plan took everyone by surprise.

"We are upset. No. 1, we feel like we were bushwhacked, only because, if they had been considering this since January of this year and had study sessions and discussions about it, why weren't we told about it?" asked Smith Barnes Elementary School Council member Eduardo Bryant.

The board makes their final decision on Dec. 9.
