COBB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Cobb County police are trying to track down the driver who crashed a stolen car into a home near Marietta and then fled the scene.

The crash happened at about 3 a.m. on Sawmill Road.

Homeowner Bill Beaudin told CBS Atlanta News that he and his wife Lorri were asleep when they heard a loud crash that shook the house. They quickly realized that a car had crashed into their home directly below where they had been sleeping.

"The car ended up in our rec room downstairs," Beaudin said. "The car was sitting up on top of our pool table."

When the dust settled, Beaudin realized that the driver wasn't inside the car. Officers ran the license plate and learned that the car had just been stolen from a neighbor, he said.

The Beaudins have a huge repair project ahead of them, but they realize the situation could have been much worse.

"It could have hit a gas line. The house could've blown up," said Beaudin. "The car could've had a gas leak and leaked gas, and it could've burned the house down. We're real lucky."
