FULTON COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A 47-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison for the beating death of his cousin in Fulton County.

Hagie Cham was charged with murder, felony murder and aggravated assault for the beating death of 42-year-old Mohamadou Touray.

Cham was scheduled to stand trial last week, but opted instead to enter a guilty plea shortly after jury selection.

According to Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard Jr., the incident happened on Aug. 7, 2010 inside the Godby Road Discount Mall in College Park.

Witnesses reported seeing Cham strike Touray at least three times in his head and chest with a hammer.

Cham was arrested after admitting to police he was responsible for the incident.

Touray was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital where he died the following day from his injuries.

Cham told detectives investigating the murder that he was upset because of the victim's alleged affair with his wife, according to reports.
