A 16-year-old Canadian has been arrested on suspicion of threatening to kill Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and members of his family.
The arrest by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Alberta comes two days after the suspect sent the second of two threats to Arpaio, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said.
Last month, Canadian investigators questioned the teen for a threat made against Arpaio in July. Arpaio received a second threat on Sunday, MCSO said.
The suspect also threatened to burn down Arpaio's home.
It was the fifth death and bombing threat against Arpaio since April, MCSO said.
On Aug. 19 a Boston man was indicted by a Maricopa County grand jury and a warrant was issued for 47-year-old Robert Paul Menard on charges he threatened to bomb the sheriff's office, MCSO said.
In April, a bomb capable of serious injury or death and addressed to Arpaio was intercepted by U.S. Postal authorities in Flagstaff. Federal authorities are continuing to investigate.
In May, the sheriff's office new headquarters building under construction at Fifth Avenue and Jackson Street in downtown Phoenix was targeted by unknown persons. A threatening message was inscribed on the building indicating a bomb had been placed inside. No arrests have yet been made.
In June, deputies traveled to California to charge Cesar Nunez with intention to kill Arpaio.
In July, a Peoria suspect, Fred Cusick, threatened to kill the sheriff and was arrested and booked into jail.
In February, Ignacio Carbajal was arrested by deputies who tracked him to a location in Scottsdale. Carbajal threatened to travel from his family's home in Mexico to Arizona to kill Arpaio, MCSO said.
