Ga. couple sentenced for scamming Calif. woman

ATLANTA (AP) -

Two Atlanta con artists accused of scamming a California woman out of $100,000 have been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Fulton County District Attorney's spokeswoman Yvette Jones says 53-year-old Wendy Green and 58-year-old Norman Olsen pleaded guilty late last week to theft by taking, abuse of an elderly person and violation of the Georgia Securities Act.

Authorities say the two convinced the woman, who was 77 at the time, to wire money to Olsen's business account in 2008. The woman believed she was investing in oil and Jones says the two promised in writing that her investment would be doubled in ten days.

Jones says the woman used proceeds from a reverse mortgage to make the fictitious investment.

Olsen and Green are ordered to pay restitution to the victim.
