Pillowcase bandit caught on video

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Police are looking for a burglar believed to have ties to a group of thieves known as the pillowcase bandits.

Investigators released video of a man who walked around a house on Spad Avenue in northwest Atlanta and checked for openings.

First, the criminal rang the front doorbell, then went around to the side and finally goes to the back porch and breaks in.

"He had plans. He's done this before," said the homeowner who did not want to be identified. "He has some sort of bottle in his hand, so he makes it look like his car has broken down and he may need freon, or gas or something."

"When he realizes no one is home, that's when he makes his move," the homeowner said.

Five minutes later the thief walked out with a pillow case stuffed with whatever he could grab.

"He riffled through all my things and all my family's things. Heirlooms, things from my wife, handed down from generation to generation, stuff that can't be replaced because it has a lot of sentimental value," the homeowner said.

The criminal was able to get in and out of the house even though the homeowner had installed surveillance cameras and an alarm system.

"He knew there was a risk. He just doesn't care," the homeowner said.

"You've done everything you can to protect your home, to set up security, but you still get broken into," the homeowner said.

Police ask anyone with information on the break-in to go to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS.
