A special honor came for civil rights champion, the Rev. C.T. Vivian.
Mayor Kasim Reed and city leaders hosted a send-off for him.
He is one of 16 people selected to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
It honors all of his work in civil and human rights.
"This is what sets Rev. Dr. Vivian apart is the incredible impact that he has made on the people of Atlanta and Georgia over the course of a lifetime," said Reed. "He's not just had an outstanding season or is a one-hit record. He's had a hit career."
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest honor the president can give a civilian.
