Roswell police catch drivers speeding past school buses

ROSWELL, GA (CBS46) -

Authorities in Roswell are cracking down on drivers who violate the law around school buses.

As a part of National School Bus Safety Week, the Roswell Police Department has teamed up with Fulton County Schools to pull over cars that speed past buses.

According to Fulton County Schools, 26 cars were pulled over in Roswell on Tuesday for improperly passing a school bus, and six were pulled over for speeding in a school zone.

"No other traffic violation puts school children at as much risk as cars passing a school bus while loading and unloading children," said Roswell police Chief Rusty Grant.

Police were stationed at Holcomb's Pond on Holcomb Bridge Road and ARIUM North Point on Alpharetta Highway.

Authorities say an unmarked police car would wait at the bus stops and radio to officers the descriptions of those violating the law.

Roswell police plan on staging their last crackdown on Thursday.
