CLAYTON COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is the lead agency in a fatal officer-involved shooting.

It happened on Interstate 75 northbound just past Old Dixie Highway in Clayton County.

According to authorities, a Clayton County police officer was on his way to work Thursday morning when he noticed a man near a car that was parked along the interstate.

The officer said the man looked suspicious so he pulled over.

While the officer was talking to the man, police said the man became combative and started fighting with the officer.

During the fight, police said the man tried to grab the officers gun, but the officer beat him to it and shot the man.

He died at the scene. Authorities have not released the man's identity. The officer is on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure when one is involved in a shooting.
