A DeKalb County police officer and his attorney held a news conference on Friday to profess the officer's innocence on child molestation charges.

Manuel Williams, an 18-year veteran of the force, is accused of fondling a friend of his 13-year-old daughter and showing her pornography at his home in September 2012.

Williams resigned after his arrest, but now says he was pressured into stepping down. He denies he admitted to the crimes, as police have alleged.

"I did not confess to any improper or illegal conduct of any sexual nature to anyone," said Williams.

The officer's attorney said Williams hugged his daughter's friend because she was like a daughter to him.

"At no point was there any under the clothes touching," said attorney Gerald Griggs. "At no point was there any over the clothes touching.  At no point was there any child molestation."

Griggs questioned why the alleged victim waited a year to come forward.

"We want the city and the world to know that this man is innocent, and we plan on showing through the evidence that he should have never been charged," said Griggs.

Griggs said Williams' 13-year-old daughter told police she was with her father and her friend on the day of the alleged molestation and never saw any inappropriate touching.

Williams became emotional as he fielded questions about the case.  Choking back tears, he said he will fight to clear his name and get his job back.

"I'm responsible for 18 years of dealing with the community," said Williams. "My family and my friends and I know that truly those people support me and with that support, that is what I need that will restore me where I need to be as DeKalb County police officer if possible."

Griggs said he will ask the DeKalb County district attorney to drop the charges against the officer.

Williams is due back in court on Nov. 7.
