Pre-demolition work of GA 400 tolls continues

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Crews were out late Saturday night and early Sunday morning in two of the southbound lanes of GA 400, preparing those lanes to become toll-free by the end of the year.

The work is part of a three-four month demolition plan that will result in the full removal of the toll plazas on GA 400, which have been in place since August of 1993.

"I think everyone got so sick of it, that they found ways to go around it, so they didn't have to pay the toll," said Caryn Briggs, adding that she almost never uses 400 anymore because of her desire to avoid the traffic backup at the toll plaza.

The demolition of the plaza will not be complete until early 2014, though tolls will cease being collected around Thanksgiving.
