Shots fired at Atlanta police officer

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Shots were fired at an Atlanta police officer Wednesday afternoon.

Atlanta police say the incident occurred at 660 Irwin Street in east Atlanta.

According to CBS Atlanta photographer David Paige, APD officers were parked in the parking lot of a restaurant when a man jumped from nearby bushes and started firing shots at them.

The officers, who were not hit, chased and eventually caught the man without firing their weapons.

Atlanta police have charged Derrick Lamar Byron with possession of a firearm, use of a firearm by a felon during a crime, aggravated assault and reckless conduct.
