DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A child has died after being hit by a car in DeKalb County.

According to DeKalb County police, the 5-year-old girl was hit at 3611 Pepperdine Court while trick-or-treating.

"They were at my house trick-or-treating, and one of the little girls called the little girl across the street and my sister was leaving and the little girl ran out in front of her," Sandra Young said.

Young said her sister was the driver of the blue Doge Caravan that struck the child.

She was rushed to a local hospital but could not be saved.

"All she heard was a bump, she didn't know she hit anything," Young said. "It is sickening, it is sick. I guess there is nothing I can do about it. I guess you have to be careful and hold your children's hand if you are with them because they are running all over the place. They get excited to get candy and it is sad that child's life was endangered trying to get candy."

Authorities say speed, alcohol nor drugs were factors in this accident.

The driver of the van was too distraught to talk.
