Sugarloaf Mills holds first ever job fair

DULUTH, GA (CBS46) -

Sugarloaf Mills drew hundreds to its first-ever job fair as retailers prepare for the holiday shopping season.

"I'm looking for anything, just about anything because I've got to get back to work," said Kenyatta Biedermann, who has been unemployed for four years.

Retailers hiring holiday help include Old Navy, Perry Ellis and Guess.

"Here's the rule of thumb," said Jesse Loving, store manager at Kay Jewelers. "You always show up to a job fair or just grab an application ready for an interview, so what if the manager said ‘Hey, let's go interview right now,' would you be ready?"

Loving and other retail recruiters said they look at how applicants dress and whether they have energy and enthusiasm.

"You definitely need to have a big smile and a great spirit," said Katrina Stroup, marketing director for Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament.

Many job applicants said they prepared their sales pitch for potential employers well in advance of the job fair.

"They don't have to look any further," said Deborah Willis. "If you want qualified, reliable, dependable expertise, you're looking at her."
