DOUGLAS, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A Cochise County Sheriff Office K9 helped seize nearly $12,000 in U.S. currency found in a vehicle near Douglas, Ariz. in partnership with the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

On Oct. 31 around 8 p.m., CCSO was requested to assist DPS with a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 80, according to a news release. Upon deputy contact with DPS and the occupants of the vehicle, a consent to search the vehicle with a sheriff's office certified drug sniffing dog, "Henry," was granted.

Upon a sniff of the vehicle "Henry" provided a conditioned response and a search of the vehicle then resulted in locating the cash. The money was seized under federal forfeiture laws and the investigation is being continued by CCSO.

"Henry" is a fifteen month old Belgium Malinois and he and his trainer just graduated from their six week K9 school in October.

"We are excited that our K9 team, beginning with Henry, is off to such a great start and we are looking forward to our other handlers and K9 partners graduating and adding to the team," Sheriff Mark J. Dannels said.
