Fulton County police told CBS Atlanta they have arrested a 25-year-old man who is accused of firing several rounds of ammunition into a passing car.

Detectives said a 49-year-old man was shot while driving through a neighborhood in southwest Atlanta looking for a family member Sunday night. The victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital but did not have serious injuries, said Sgt. Scott McBride of the Fulton County Police.

Steven Williams was arrested around 3:35 a.m. He is charged with three counts of aggravated assault, criminal damage to property and possession of a firearm during an attempt to commit certain felonies.

The shooting happened in front of a house on Birchberry Terrace near the intersection of Promenade Drive.

The victim and two passengers were trying to find their family member who suffers from mental illness. That family member had gotten out of a home nearby and was wandering through the neighborhood. During the family's search for that person, McBride said they came across three men wearing hoodies along Birchberry Terrace.

"There's no rhyme or reason for this one," said McBride. "The gentleman who was shot wasn't doing anything."

Police interviewed several people from inside a home along Birchberry Terrace. Several shell casings were found in the front yard of that home, but McBride said early Monday morning that none of those people had been taken into custody.
