FORSYTH COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A Forsyth County woman was arrested for animal cruelty after her dog was found with an embedded collar.

An animal control officer discovered 48-year-old Melinda Barahona's dog in the 5000 block of Porter Lane.

According to the report, the dog's ribs were showing and it was somewhat skittish. There was also a cable wrapped around the Jack Russell mix's neck.

The report states several people lived in the house, including one who said she'd been caring for the dog for the last week, but never noticed the cable.

Barahona told the officer the dog had followed her children home one day about eight years ago. She explained she was homeless and had not seen the dog in about a week.

Sgt. Debra Frampton, animal control unit supervisor said the dog was taken to a veterinarian to remove the collar.
