Cyclist struck by cars, killed in Marietta

Posted: Updated:

Marietta police said that a bicyclist was struck and killed by two cars on Powder Springs Street.

When CBS Atlanta News arrived on scene, a Cadillac was parked just feet away from the bike.  The car had a dent on the front right of the hood and a shattered windshield.

Police said the bicyclist flew over the top of the windshield and then was hit by another passing motorist.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead on scene. According to police, the victim was wearing a head light but did not have on reflective clothing. The drivers of both cars, according to police, said they never saw the bicyclist before he was hit.

"Everything happened so fast, everyone is saying things happened in the blink of an eye," Officer David Auld with Marietta police said. "One second they were driving, and the next second there was something in front of them. So, no one is able to give us any information as to what direction this bicyclist was coming from."

Investigators said they will come back to the scene during the day to look for additional evidence.

Police said both drivers remained on scene and neither driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
