Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed re-elected to second term

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (AP) -

Mayor Kasim Reed gets to keep his job.

He won a landslide victory over three virtual unknowns. It was never really a contest.

Reed had millions of dollars and the backing of President Barack Obama.

The mayor, who is a Democrat, also has a friendly working relationship with Gov. Nathan Deal, who is a Republican, on issues like economic development and transportation.

The mayor thanked his supporters and pointed to his successes during his first term.

He helped negotiate the deal that cleared the way for a $1-billion Falcons' stadium.

Reed also touted reforms to the city's pension system, hiring more police and efforts to reduce crime.
