2 sent to hospital after Bartow County train derailment

Posted: Updated:

A train derailment sent two people to the hospital in Bartow County.

The CSX freight train derailed at Highway 113 and Beasley Road early Wednesday morning.

The train carrying coal originated in Evansville, IN and was exiting Plant Bowen - a coal-fired power station - when an engine derailed on the CSX tracks on Georgia Power property.

The train contained three locomotives and 94 empty coal cars. Fire officials said the coal cars did not derail.

Two CSX employees were taken to Floyd County Medical Center in Rome for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

CSX officials are trying to figure out what caused the train to derail.
