LILBURN, GA (CBS46) -

Students at Knight Elementary School will return to class Monday after cleaning crews disinfected the building following an outbreak of the stomach virus.

Eighty kids went home sick Thursday with symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting, prompting school leaders to shut down the school Friday.

Authorities ask that students only return to school if they've been symptom-free, without medicine, for at least 24 hours.

The Gwinnett County Health Department urges parents to remind their children to wash their hands often with soap and water. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are not effective in killing this particular germ, officials said.
