WILLIAMSON, GA (CBS46) -

A wounded warrior helped a girl paralyzed in a head-on crash.

On Monday, National Guardsman Charles Mays and members of the group Sunshine on a Ranney Day revealed a new bedroom to 6-year-old Briana Hudson.

In 2011, Briana and her mom were injured in a crash that left Briana unable to walk.

After befriending Briana, Mays learned she had a hard time getting around her home.

"She was ecstatic. She lit up when she seen it so ... maybe it will push her independence, that's what I'm hoping. It will make her independence easier," says Mays.

Mays is also paralyzed. He was injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq.

He has spent the last eight years regaining his independence and he wanted the same for Briana.
