Atlanta Regional Crimestoppers is now offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the person who shot Atlanta Officer Christopher L. Smith.
The ambush style shooting happened late Saturday night at the Edgewood Court Apartments on Hardee Street in Atlanta.
"We do believe the weapon used was a shotgun," said APD Captain Paul Guerrucci.
Smith was working an approved off-duty security job at the complex when it happened.
"He was shot multiple times by an unknown assailant," Guerrucci said.
Smith was rushed to Grady Hospital after he was shot in the face and leg. He has since been released. Now investigators are asking for the public's help.
"What we are asking for right now is anybody who has information to help us further this investigation," said Guerrucci. "We're asking they get in contact with the police department or Crimestoppers where they can remain anonymous."
Guerrucci said so far, investigators have not determined a motive.
