MARYSVILLE, WA (KIRO/CNN) – He wasn't caught drinking or sleeping – one bus driver was caught having sex on the job.
A Washington mass transit driver resigned after he was caught having sex with a passenger on his 20-minute break.
Bus surveillance showed the driver and a passenger on the bus as the route was nearing its end in Marysville, WA.
An officer patrolling the area saw the 59-year-old driver and a 52-year-old woman in the bushed around 7:40 p.m. on Nov. 6.
"I can't recall another time where a driver or any employee has been reprimanded for having sex on the job at community transit," Community Transit spokesperson Martin Munguia said.
Marysville, WA police couldn't say if the woman involved was the last passenger on the bus. Officers did say the sex was consensual.
"An arrest could have been made or a citation could have been issued but again they just decided in this case let Community Transit handle it from their perspective," Marysville Police Department Cmdr. Robb Lamoureaux said.
The driver worked for the transit system for 15 years.
"We don't have a specific rule regarding sexual activity, but we do have policies that say when you're on the job, when you're on the clock you need to represent Community Transit in a professional manner," said Munguia. "He certainly did not deny what had happened."
The driver was put on paid leave, but he resigned Wednesday ahead of a hearing regarding possible disciplinary action.
The driver made just more than $57,000 a year. His resignation won't impact his pension.
