Murder suspect's mother: "I did not raise a monster"

CLAYTON (CBS46) -

The mother of Contessa Neal, charged in the murder of 15-year-old Travon Crump, who was killed execution-style at a wooded walking trail near a golf course, said she sympathizes with Crump's family, but that her daughter is innocent until proven guilty.

"I do sympathize with this lady in losing her child," the mother said, not wanting to show her face on camera or give her name. "But, I'm not going to be intimidated because I know that I raised my child the right way. I know that I did not raise a monster."

The woman said that Neal, 21, is a mother herself. Clayton County Police said that Neal and Tajh Hare, 17, led Crump to that walking trail and that Neal initially pointed a gun at Crump but was unable to pull the trigger. Police believe it was Hare who eventually shot and killed him.

Crump's mother Pinky Talley and father Tramaine Hardrick came to the pair's first appearances in court. Talley had to be led out of the courtroom Saturday morning after she started crying.

"I don't care if they just come in to get fingerprinted, as long as I am able to come around this corner, I will walk every step of the way to make sure justice is served," Talley said.

Hardrick said that he is in "hell" and that he visited the spot where his son was killed Saturday morning. Police said that Neal and Hare admitted to leading Crump to the walking trail where he was shot, but that Crump had been trying to break into a nearby home.

"I walked the path where my son was killed at and I'm trying to figure out if he was attempting to break into your house, why did you have to lure him into some woods?" Hardrick said.

Neal and Hare were not released on bond.
