A 29-year-old woman is recovering in an Atlanta hospital after being hit by a driver Friday evening. Atlanta police said the incident happened on the sidewalk in front of the entrance to the Cheetah night club in midtown Atlanta.
Shaquita McCou suffered several severe injuries, while the suspect, Robert Fitzgerald, fled the scene and was later arrested.
"To not even stop and check … how could a person be so heartless?" said McCou's partner, Jasmine Marks. "You hear it all the time on the news, and you think, 'Oh, how sad.' But when it hits home like this, it's just … it's still so very surreal."
Marks said McCou should make a full recovery but only after having her spleen removed after suffering from internal bleeding.
"She's such a trooper; she's so strong," said Marks.
Fitzgerald was released from jail on $60,000 bond, and still faces charges of DUI and hit-and-run.
