Actor Tyler Perry buying more land in Douglas County

Posted: Updated:

A firm with ties to actor Tyler Perry will go before the Douglasville City Council Monday night to ask that boundaries on a 364-acre piece of land be redrawn.

The land is located in southeastern Douglas County and is adjacent to an 850-acre tract Perry bought earlier this year.

"I've driven by his house, the last one he built," said resident Merrick Taylor. "It took them forever to build it, so I'd be curious to see what his plans were."

Perry's publicist did not return an email requesting information on the actor's plan for the 1,100-plus acres.

Perry is best known for his movie character "Medea" and several TV shows he has produced.

"If it is a production house, that would be good because that would probably mean jobs for the locals, so that would be awesome," said Carla Wood, who works in Douglasville.

City officials said they had not received any proposals requesting rezoning for the property. The land is currently zoned for mixed use, allowing both business and residential development.

"If he (Perry) wants to buy up Douglasville, more power to him," said resident Jimmy Hamrick.
