CUSTAR, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A Custar man is facing attempted murder charges after the Wood County Sheriff's Office says he shot a man outside of his home Wednesday afternoon.

The sheriff's office says 53-year-old Thomas J. Boyer noticed a man he did not know outside of his home on Defiance Pike. After asking the man to leave, the sheriff's office says Boyer shot 42-year-old William Henry Morris, of Rutland, OH, with a shotgun.

Rutland was transported to a Toledo-area hospital by air ambulance. He is listed in serious condition at a Toledo hospital.

Boyer was arrested and charged with attempted murder. The shooting remains under investigation, but Boyer was arraigned Thursday. He remains in jail on a $1 million bond and has been ordered to have a mental health assessment. Boyer will be back in court next month.

The shooting happened at a home directly across the street from St. Louis Catholic School. For safety precautions, the school was placed on lockdown for a short time after the shooting. No one at the school was ever in danger.
