CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Authorities have charged a woman from St. Pauls with trying to fill her deceased patient's prescription painkiller.

Maria Locklear, 34, was a hospice registered nursing assistant in Pembroke.

Her patient, who was suffering from colon cancer, died. Four days later, authorities say Locklear tried to fill the woman's prescription for 60 Oxycontin pills.

On Sunday, November 17, Locklear returned to the pharmacy to pick up the medication and was arrested shortly afterwards.

She is charged with attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud/forgery/subterfuge and attempting to traffic opium by possession.

She was released from the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $5,000 bond.
