A departure ceremony is being planned for about 200 Georgia National Guard soldiers who are headed to Afghanistan.
Members of the 48th Brigade's Infantry Combat Team will leave Macon on Sunday for training at Camp Shelby, Miss.
The Macon Telegraph reports the troops will deploy to Afghanistan sometime in January.
At the Kabul Base Cluster, 48th Brigade soldiers will be responsible for life support and security operations. They also will be involved with helping shut down some bases as part of U.S. plans to withdraw from Afghanistan.
Members of the 48th Brigade have deployed several times in recent year to Afghanistan, Bosnia and Iraq.
