Using surveillance video, Dunwoody police make arrests in handbag thefts

DUNWOODY, GA (CBS46) -

Dunwoody police said they were able to arrest four people in connection to the theft of several expensive handbags over Thanksgiving weekend, using images from surveillance cameras. The bags were taken from the Dillard's department store at Perimeter Mall, matching several crimes committed at the Dillard's at Atlantic Station in midtown Atlanta earlier in the fall.

"They're high-end bags, you can throw on about six on each arm," said Officer Tim Fecht with the Dunwoody police. "It's something that's very easy and accessible to get to."

Atlanta police were still looking for the suspects in two cases of handbag theft at Atlantic Station. One of the incidents happened in September, the other in November. Click here to view surveillance video from the incidents.

In both cases, Michael Kors bags were taken.

Fecht did not know what bags were taken from Perimeter Mall but said Michael Kors is a common brand name currently targeted by crooks. The bags range in price from $200 to $3,000.

In the Dunwoody case, the suspects were caught Saturday evening in possession of the items they're accused of stealing.
