Patchy rain hits metro Atlanta

Posted: Updated:

The Atlanta area will see patchy rain through Tuesday with cloudy skies, according to CBS Atlanta Meteorologist Jennifer Valdez.

Highs Tuesday afternoon will reach the low 60s and at night the patchy rain will continue with lows reaching the mid 50s, Valdez said.

On Wednesday, rain chances will decrease to only 20% as highs warm up to 70 degrees!

Tuesday: Cloudy with off and on showers. High: 61. SE Winds at 5 mph.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with spotty showers. Low of 56. Winds: Calm.

Wednesday: Clouds with only an isolated shower. High of 70. Winds: S 5-10 mph.

According to the National Weather Service, regional radars show patchy areas of light rain, drizzle and fog across much of north and central Georgia Tuesday morning.

The NWS expects the Atlanta area to see a break in the light rain by mid-morning if not sooner then another round of rain will develop Tuesday afternoon that is more likely to hit central Georgia but there is still a good chance we will see rain in Atlanta.

The NWS is predicting decreasing rain chances from west to east during the evening hours as the upper disturbance pushes east. However, a continued active westerly flow aloft will warrant a slight chance of rain for most areas Tuesday night. Still no chance for thunder as instabilities are nil.

The NWS is forecasting low clouds, fog and drizzle to settle in over much of the area again tonight as a deep southerly flow continues to spread in abundant low level moisture. A slight Increase in mid and upper ridging is noted on Wednesday in response to our next weather system digging in over the plains. This suggest a lesser chance for rain on Wednesday. Nevertheless, the moist Southerly wind flow will warrant a slight chance of rain for most areas on Wednesday, the NWS predicted.
