ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Fire investigators are trying to figure out what caused a fire that destroyed a popular bicycle shop in Buckhead Wednesday night.
Firefighters responded to the scene at about 8 p.m. They found heavy flames coming from Peachtree Bikes, located in the center of a strip of businesses along Peachtree Road near Rumson Road.
A viewer sent CBS Atlanta News video of firefighters battling the blaze. Multiple explosions can be heard on the video as the front of the store is engulfed with flames.
"There were some regular storage chemicals," said Battalion Chief Richard Heard. "We did hear some explosions early on into the incident."
It took firefighters about 15 minutes to knock out the flames.
The owner of Woof Gang Bakery and Grooming said she just opened her business on April 16.
"It is really rough," Patterson said as tears welled in her eyes.
None of the businesses were open at the time. Fire walls kept the flames from spreading to adjacent businesses, but several shops have significant smoke and water damage.
The building is located next to a popular restaurant called Fellini's Pizza. There are several high-rise condominiums in the area. Residents of the condos reported hearing the explosions from their balconies.
Several onlookers told CBS Atlanta News that the store had just installed a sign shaped in the form of a bicycle. It was covered in Christmas lights.
"I hope that didn't have anything to do with it," Bill Coffer said.
Investigators are still working to determine an exact cause.
