Protesters rally to increase minimum wage to $15 an hour

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Fast food employees gathered outside a southeast Atlanta restaurant to rally support for an increase in the minimum wage.

Groups gathering in Atlanta formed around 6 a.m. at the Burger King on Moreland Avenue SE and moved further up to the Krystal fast-food restaurant.

Dozens of people showed to push for an increase in minimum wage. Many stood in a straight line to carry a lit banner that stated "Raise the wage."

This effort is part of a national strike wave hitting roughly 100 cities. Some workers walked off their jobs to show support.

This all stems from a growing fast-food worker movement that started with 200 workers who went on strike in 2012 in New York.

Workers are fighting for a $15-an-hour wage. They also want the right to form a union without retaliation.
