Forsyth sheriff's deputies release sketch connected to attempted armed robbery

FORSYTH COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

People who live in one Forsyth County community are outraged and on alert after an attempted armed robbery Tuesday afternoon.

"A woman, she knocked on the door and pretended like she was selling children's Bibles and then three guys came in on my neighbor," said Pete Woodham.

Woodham is friends with the victim and lives nearby. He said the robbers attacked the victim once they got inside.

"She was beat up pretty good. She can still walk around, but it's going to take a while for her to get over it," Woodham said.

Woodham said the robbers were after a safe, and demanded that the victim give them the combination.

"She did not know it, bless her heart, and she said she would have to call her son. It is my understanding that when she called him to get the combination to the safe, he called 911," said Woodham.

Sheriff's deputies said they arrived within minutes, but by then the intruders were gone.

"It had to be somebody that had either seen the property before or knew from somebody else," Woodham said.

Some neighbors said they are praying that the victim gets better soon.

"With what she has been through, her cancer and all those cancer treatments and then being beat up like that, it is just beyond reason," said Woodham.

"It was scary because you just don't think about things happening right here, this close to home," said Connie Andrew, who lives near the victim.
