DeKalb County judge steps down amid sexual harassment allegations

Posted: Updated:

A DeKalb County judge has stepped down after allegations of sexual harassment.

Associate Judge Arnold Ragas tendered his resignation on Tuesday after the human resources department began an investigation into inappropriate emails sent by Ragas.

Details of the incident will be released once the investigation is completed.

The resignation letter reads as follows:

"This is the most difficult thing I have ever had to do in my life but effective immediately, I resign as Associate Judge of Probate Court in DeKalb County. I have had nine great years serving the County but I must conquer other challenges at this point in my career.

"In both the present and future, the county is in extremely capable hands. Judge Rosh is tremendous. I thank her for the opportunity to serve but most importantly, I thank her for being my mentor, colleague and friend. What I have learned from her is immeasurable.

"I cannot imagine a better law clerk than Caroline Freeman. I have never met a person better suited for Probate Court than Caroline. With her knowledge, warmth and ease of being, she earns the respect of lawyers, the staff and the public. Hopefully she will choose to have a long career in the Court.

"One cannot work someplace for nine years without making friends along the way. I am no exception. It is my hope that the friendships I made while at the Court will continue away from the Court.

"Again, thank you to everyone who made my nine years successful. I do not know if my next nine will be nearly as fulfilling but I owe it to myself to find out." will have more information as it becomes available.
