A Tri-State family is giving back this Christmas to the hospital that helped their son.

They say he would love that his family is helping make kids smile, even if they're not feeling well this holiday season.

Shayne and Jamie Kellen, of Henderson, lost their 11-year-old son, Nicholas, last fall. He'd was treated at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, and even though he was only a patient there for a short while, the staff had a big impact on his family.

Last year, the Kellen's created Nick's Helpers, a group that collects donated toys, wraps and delivers them to kids at Kosair. It's a way for them to remember Nicholas and bring some Christmas cheer to the children in the hospital this time of year.

"It was just basically about giving back. Basically continuing what Nicholas started because, by his decision, he was an organ donor so just kind of continuing what Nick started," said Shayne Kellen, Nick's dad.

"I mean anything he could do. He would give up his toys. He would give up his clothes. He loved to donate, to give," Nick's mom, Jamie Kellen.

We went along as the Kellen's made their deliveries this year in Louisville. Be sure to watch the story that's attached above.
