Cobb PD investigating a fatal officer involved shooting

COBB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Cobb County's Department of Internal Affairs Unit is investigating a fatal shooting involving a Cobb County police officer.

The shooting happened Friday morning near the 2200 block of Powers Ferry Road.

According to Cobb police, uniform officers initiated an investigation involving a stolen motorcycle parked in the parking lot of an Extended Stay Hotel.

During the investigation, officers came into contact with John A. Massey, 30, Marietta, in one of the hotel rooms.

Police said a physical altercation began between Massey and officers, and Massey produced a handgun.

A Cobb police spokesperson said an officer fired his weapon, killing Massey.

The officers involved in the incident have been placed on routine administrative leave and their names are not being released at this time.
