MARTA prepares for huge New Year’s Eve crowds

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

MARTA officials tell CBS Atlanta News they are ready for huge crowds riding the trains to make their way to and from the Chick-fil-A Bowl as well as revelers making the trip to the Peach Drop at Underground Atlanta to ring in the new year.

Lyle Harris said they're manned up and ready to provide a safe ride with added security patrols and staffers that will be there to direct riders if need so.

"When he have large number of people on the system we know anything can happen. We have been very fortunate. We do have great riders on our system. But we want to make sure they're safe, of course," said Harris.

MARTA recently launched its Ride with Respect campaign and is hoping riders will keep it in mind this New Year's Eve.

"It's a night of big partying, we want folks to behave themselves and to understand they are riding with other people on the system," said Harris.

Harris recommends riders load their Breeze card with a round-trip to save on time when trying to head back home.

The last train out of downtown Atlanta near Underground Atlanta is scheduled for 2 a.m. Jan 1.
