The winter storm bearing down on the Midwest and Northeast is causing thousands of flights to be delayed or canceled, with passengers stranded at airports like Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International.
Lesley Ryland is trying to get home to England after attending her son's wedding in Kentucky.
"I was supposed to fly from Kentucky/Louisville up to New York, but flights have been canceled at New York, so instead I've come here," said Ryland. "Hopefully tonight, I'll get a transfer from here back over to London. I won't get home until the small hours of Saturday morning."
Brian Estelle, an Army soldier stationed at Fort Gordon in Augusta, told CBS Atlanta News he's glad he finally made it out of Chicago with all the snow that fell, delaying his flight.
"As quick as they would plow it away, it would come right back down," Estelle said. "I knew it was going to be a long day."
Angelica Perez and her family spent the holidays in Guatemala. Their Thursday flight home to Newark, NJ, was canceled.
"We were supposed to be home right now like sleeping by now, and yeah, we're not," said Perez.
