Bitter cold keeps heating repair companies busy

The bone-chilling temperatures outside on Friday did not concern Rick Sonnenberg. He had a job to do.

"We are about to check the refrigerant level and the electrical components of the heat pumps out back," said Sonnenberg.

Sonnenberg and the company he works for, Bartlett Heating and Cooling, were extremely busy Friday, making sure people had the heat to keep the cold temperatures and ice away.

"We treat all our heating calls with a sense of urgency but even more so on a day like this. Obviously when you wake up without any heat and it's 20 degrees outside, you definitely feel it," Sonnenberg said.

Friday Sonnenberg checked out the Primrose School Smyrna West.

"We are always concerned about temperatures for the safety of the children because, at that point, they are not allowed to go outside and we definitely want to make sure the heat is working in the building," said Tameka Waller, with Primrose.

The heating units checked out fine at Primrose. Sonnenberg said that's because the building owner thought about cold days months ago.

"We offer annual service agreements to our customers and a good portion take us up on that because we can check it out and make sure you don't get any surprises," said Sonnenberg.
