Icy water hampers search for missing Dawson County men

DAWSONVILLE, GA (CBS46) -

Icy water continues to hamper the search for two missing men in Dawson County.

Mason Cox and David Wood, both 20, have been missing for a week.

According to family, Cox and Wood were set to go fishing near Fredericks Cove on Jan. 2. Their fishing poles were found outside on the porch.

For two days, ice prevented a Department of Natural Resources boat from launching to help look for the men.

A barge was used to break up ice around the dock at Fredericks Cove and crews are hoping to use sonar to complete an underwater search.

A petition created to urge CNN and other media outlets to air the story of the missing men has gained attention. It currently has 4,932 signatures.

The Dawson County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Dawson County Emergency Services, are searching for Cox and Wood.

If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of the men, please contact the Dawson County Sheriff's Office at 706-344-3636.
